1. Opportunity Research

How might we improve pedestrians' mobility and safety?

The team identified a recurring problem in Bangalore where pedestrians face obstacles while walking on sidewalks. The obstruction is caused by various items such as construction waste, vehicles, garbage, private items, and grey shops infrastructures. The issue impacts pedestrians' mobility and safety, making it difficult for them to navigate the city streets.

The team found that the city authorities lack data to understand the extent of the problem and take appropriate action. Additionally, local residents have become accustomed to the situation and do not demand change.

2. Solution definition

Using AI-generated pictures to show local people how streets could look like

The project proposes using AI-generated street pictures to show local residents how their streets could look in the future. The team aims to provide before-and-after images of potential improvements to engage and empower locals to voice their opinions and demand change. By providing a visualization of the proposed changes, the project team hopes to inspire people to take action and demand a better living environment. This would also help city authorities to better understand the problem and take appropriate action.

3. Prototype Validation

Giving voices to people to generate public data

To test the project's desirability, the team set up a simple analogue voting device on a street to gauge local people's curiosity and reactions. The device served as a way to engage people and gather feedback. The team's next step is to create a mobile app that allows users to demand street cleaning services on demand. The app will serve as a consultative tool for local representatives and empower residents to take action on issues that impact their daily lives. The goal is to create a platform that residents can use to express their opinions and influence the decision-making process. The project aims to create a more inclusive and responsive city environment.
